| For the second year in a row, the ladies
sailing in the Fleur de Lis series were greeted with strong, gusty winds on
the first day. Southeast winds of 15-20 knots, gusting higher, provided
racers and spectators alike with some exciting conditions. PRO Wallace
Paletou tested everyone with WL3 courses (WL2 for the non-spinnaker fleet)
on Saturday. The blustery conditions took their toll, with 3 boats dropping
out before the end of the day. Sunday’s weather started out much better,
again with winds out of the southeast, clocking to the south, but just as
the A boats were finishing, the rain squalls began moving in with more gusty
winds and blinding rain.
Chelise Brodtmann, at the helm of the J/22 Fats, took 3 bullets in Class
B, as well as in the overall fleet standings. She was awarded the Fleur de
Lis perpetual trophy for the spinnaker fleet winner. Debby Grim, sailing the
J/35 Footloose, took honors in spinnaker A, while Lani Sybert skippered
Dixie Chick to victory in the non-spinnaker fleet. SYC was the host of the
skippers’ meeting on Friday night. A fajita and margarita party at NOYC on
Saturday afternoon was the venue for the trophy presentation for races 1 and
2. Race 3 of this series was also the Pam Sintes Memorial Regatta. South
Shore Yacht Club hosted the final trophy presentation and party.
