Enhancing The Lives Of Women And Girls Through The Sport Of Sailing

The Lake Pontchartrain Women’s Sailing Association (LPWSA) is the only sailing group for women, by women in New Orleans. Our members are women, as well as men, and youth who share the goal of increasing female participation in sailing. The LPWSA includes members from yacht clubs and boating organizations on Lake Pontchartrain, as well as, women across the gulf coast region who are not affiliated with another sailing club in New Orleans.

It is our mission to enhance the lives of women and girls through quality education and access to the sport of sailing including:

  • Education and hands-on experiences for women and girls interested in learning to sail
  • Serving as a reputable resource for females involved in the sport of sailing and for sailboat owners
  • Promotion of positive life experiences for women and girls through sailing
  • Support for individuals and organizations that assist women and girls in sailing

In 2014 the LPWSA christened their first club boat, Femme Fatale. The 54-year-old Flying Scot was lovingly rebuilt by LPWSA members with the help of local and national organizations such as North Sails, Sintes Boat Works, Flying Scot Foundation, and many generous donors. Femme Fatale is an oldie but a goodie and has grown to be the cornerstone of the LPWSA sailing and education programs.
